Every rating on RustySkins is the output of the same repeatable process, run by our own team with our own money. This page documents that process end to end, so you can judge for yourself how much weight to give our scores. If a review ever appears to deviate from what’s described here, tell us, we’ll either fix the review or explain the exception in it.
Fresh accounts, no press treatment
We test every platform on a newly created account, signed up the same way any reader would, through the public site, not a press contact. Platforms do not know they are being reviewed while we test, so we experience the same onboarding, verification prompts, bonus offers and withdrawal queues as everyone else. We note how much personal data signup demands, whether email or KYC verification is forced and at what point, and how aggressively the platform pushes deposits before you’ve seen the product.
Real deposits from our own budget
Each test starts with a real deposit, typically $20–100 depending on the platform’s minimums, funded from the RustySkins testing budget, never from operator-provided credit. We record the deposit method used, any deposit fees or unfavorable skin valuations applied, and how long funds took to arrive. On gambling sites we then play the major game modes with that balance; on trading sites and marketplaces we run actual trades and listings, noting the effective commission on each.
Withdrawals, timed to the minute
Payout reliability is where skin platforms fail most often, so we measure it rather than take it on faith. We request a withdrawal on every platform we review and time it from click to received, skins landing in our Steam inventory, crypto confirmed on-chain, or cash reaching our account. We record the figure in the review, along with any withdrawal fees, minimums, wagering requirements that gated the payout, or re-pricing applied to skins on the way out.
Support tickets with measured response times
During every test we contact support through the platform’s primary channel, live chat where it exists, otherwise email or Discord, with a genuine, non-trivial question about fees or withdrawals. We log the time to first human response and whether the answer was actually correct, then report both in the review. Canned bot replies don’t stop the clock; a human resolving the issue does.
Provably fair verification
Where a gambling site claims to be provably fair, we test the claim: we record server seed hashes before play, reveal and verify seeds afterwards, and confirm that published game outcomes match the committed values. One important caveat we repeat across the site: provably fair proves outcome integrity, that a roll wasn’t rigged after the fact. It is not a license, it doesn’t regulate the operator, and it says nothing about whether your withdrawal will be honored. We state plainly in every review whether a platform holds a gambling license, and almost none do.
The 90-day re-review cycle
Skin platforms change fast, fees shift, ownership changes hands, withdrawal queues stretch. Every platform we cover is re-tested at least every 90 days: a fresh deposit, a fresh timed withdrawal, and a check of fees, game lineup and support quality against what our review states. Scores move when the facts move, in both directions, and every review displays its last-updated date so you know how current it is.
The rating rubric
Each platform’s score out of 10 is a weighted average of five criteria. Trust dominates deliberately: a site with great odds and fast UX that might not pay you is worthless.

How we handle affiliate conflicts
RustySkins earns affiliate commissions from some reviewed platforms, disclosed at the top of every page where referral links appear. To keep that from bending the scores: ratings are finalized by the editorial team before any commercial discussion, commission rates are never visible to reviewers during testing, and no platform can pay to be reviewed, to change a score, or to remove a con. Several top-rated sites on RustySkins pay us nothing, and some paying partners rank below non-partners in the same category. If we terminate a partnership over a platform’s conduct, the review stays up and says why.
